Peace and quiet? Doubtful.     Peace of mind? Definitely.

Should you ever oversteer or understeer while driving, Vehicle Stability AssistTM (VSA®)* will work to brake individual wheels and/or reduce engine power to  help keep you and your family on course.

  1. *VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle’s course in every situation  or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.

  2. *To help reduce the likelihood of whiplash injuries,  the front seats have active head restraints.  They move up and forward in a  sufficient rear collision.

  3. *Relax knowing you’re surrounded by airbags. Literally. Standard front, front side and side curtain airbags† can help reduce the likelihood of injuries in a collision. The side curtain airbags have a sensor that can detect a rollover, and then deploy the airbags. And SmartVentTM front side airbags are specifically designed to help protect the driver’s or front passenger’s upper torso in side-impact scenarios.

  4. * †Honda reminds you and your passengers to always buckle up. Children 12 and under are safest when properly restrained in a rear seat.

  5. *When the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) toughened up its crash-safety tests in 2011, the Odyssey did not flinch. In fact, it has passed with flying colors every year since, earning 5 stars in each seating position of all three crash-safety tests, as well as earning a 5-Star Overall Vehicle Score.16

  6. *Because you can unexpectedly lose tire pressure, the Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)15 will notify you when  air pressure is significantly low.

  7. *Your Odyssey features the Advanced Compatibility EngineeringTM (ACETM) body structure, a Honda-exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection by dispersing crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This helps reduce the force transferred to the passenger compartment and more evenly disperse the forces transferred to other vehicles involved in a crash.

  8. *If you have a large family to haul around, the

  9. *Odyssey provides up to five positions  for LATCH-compatible (Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren) child seats.

  10. *Stop. Fast. Thanks to an anti-lock braking system  (ABS) with Brake Assist, which can help the vehicle

  11. *come to a stop sooner during emergency braking,  and Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), which helps

  12. *balance braking forces during dynamic loading.

Honda LaneWatch13 This innovative feature uses a small camera on the passenger-side mirror to greatly reduce your passenger-side blind spot. When you signal right, live video displays on your i-MID screen revealing nearly four times more area than the mirror alone. (EX, EX-L, Touring)

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)11 The new FCW system can detect the presence of vehicles in front of you and issues alerts when it calculates you are at risk of a collision. (EX-L and above)

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)14 Using a small camera behind the rearview mirror, LDW can track lane markings on the road and alert  you when it detects you drifting into a different lane without signaling. (EX-L and above)

The Odyssey puts  everything in perspective.

Even attentive drivers can get distracted. That’s why we’ve equipped the Odyssey with advanced technology like Forward Collision Warning11 (EX-L and above) and the Touring Elite-exclusive Blind Spot Information System (BSI).12 Meanwhile, the new Honda LaneWatchTM13 feature helps you avoid cars on your passenger side by showing you where they are. Getting there is all the fun.

Why shouldn’t a minivan be exciting to drive? The 2014 Odyssey puts 248 horses at your beck and call with a powerful 3.5-liter V-6 engine. And even when the kids get restless on longer road trips, an easy low-speed steering effort and a confident feel on the highway will provide for a smooth, quiet ride.

Aerodynamic by design.  The Odyssey’s low-slung profile  and wide, athletic stance  help cut through the clutter  of everyday driving.

Take the road more efficient.10  Go where you want to go  and spend less money getting there, thanks to Variable Cylinder ManagementTM (VCM®). Combining this innovation with a 6-speed automatic transmission  – now standard on every model – helps Odyssey achieve  a 28-mpg EPA highway rating.10

Style to match its speed.  With a host of sleek enhancements up front, the 2014 Odyssey looks  as quick as it drives.

Odyssey Touring Elite shown in Modern Steel Metallic.

Let them eat cake. And crackers. And popcorn…

Family road trips create great memories. And big messes. Especially  when the kids eat in the car. That’s why the 2014 Odyssey is the first  minivan ever to come with a built-in vacuum cleaner (Touring Elite). Candy wrappers, cookie crumbs and the bane of all beach outings – sand – have finally met their match.

Odyssey Touring Elite shown in Dark Cherry Pearl.

Because dirt knows no boundaries, the Odyssey’s exclusive HondaVACTM goes where you need it. The vacuum is located in the driver’s-side rear of the vehicle, but  can reach all the way to the front passenger area. The HondaVAC also includes two handy attachments, as well as a removable waste bin for quick and easy cleaning.(Touring Elite)

Any time. Any Place

Where there’s a will, the Odyssey has a way. Configure the interior to transport 8 adults (EX and above),  4' x 8' sheets of plywood and everything in between.

Quite possibly the perfect combination of cargo and passenger space.*

The versatile interior lets you move a ton of stuff. And bring two friends to help.*

Who’s got room for 8?  You do.*

7 passengers,  1 stylish ride.*

With 6 people, you can fold the armrest down for extra comfort in the 3rd row.*  (Touring models)

5 passengers and lots of cargo space left to fill.*

Party of 4? Stow the 3rd row for more cargo space.*

Even with 3 passengers, there’s still plenty of room for a surfboard or ladder.

Build a tree house. Or a real house. Hauling lumber is a breeze.

More space for passengers, or  more room for two child seats in  the second row in “wide mode.”*

*8-passenger seating standard on EX and above. Second-row center seat not available on LX. Honda reminds you to properly secure items in the cargo area.

Versatile as the day is long.

9:00am

Soccer Playoffs

With a full third row, you can easily seat three future soccer pros in back. Fold down the center armrest to fit two coaches comfortably (Touring models). Or take advantage of the One-Motion 60/40 Split 3rd-Row Magic Seat® to tuck the third row away partially or completely, depending on your cargo needs.

1:30pm

Fore!

The flexible second row is plenty sumptuous  to transport your foursome to the course or driving range. In “wide mode” the two outboard seats can be moved 1.5 inches to each side, giving your friends more room to spread out.  And the center seatback folds down to hold beverages and snacks (EX and above). If only they made golf carts this comfortable.

6:45pm

Dinner at Archer Bistro

Stylish and sophisticated are not terms normally associated with minivans. But the Odyssey is anything but ordinary. Heated front seats with leather trim (EX-L and above), customizable temperature settings for both driver and passengers (EX and above), and touch-screen access to tons of music options (EX and above) make  the Odyssey perfect for a night on the town.

Heated Power Side Mirrors with Integrated Turn Indicators

The Touring model's side mirrors with integrated turn indicators are especially useful in areas with heavy traffic.

High-Intensity Discharge (HID) Headlights

The Touring Elite model's high-intensity discharge (HID) headlights are significantly brighter than halogen lights, greatly enhancing visibility.

Power Sliding Doors

The power sliding doors, standard on EX and above models, maximize utility without compromising style.

Power Tailgate

The power tailgate, standard on EX-L and above models, is designed for convenient loading and unloading.

Rear Roofline Spoiler with Integrated Brake Light

The rear roofline spoiler with integrated brake light gives the Odyssey a modern, aerodynamic look.

Smart Entry

The Smart Entry system detects when your key fob is near the vehicle, and it allows you to lock and unlock your doors with ease.

3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine

The high-output, 3.5-liter, 24-valve, SOHC i-VTEC® V-6 engine produces 248 hp and an equally impressive 250 lb-ft of torque, giving the Odyssey strong performance, while maintaining exceptional fuel efficiency[1].

[1] 19 city/28 highway/22 combined mpg rating. Based on 2014 EPA mileage ratings. Use for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.

6-Speed Automatic Transmission

The 6-speed automatic transmission gives the Odyssey a smooth, even spread of power during acceleration, and contributes to the excellent fuel economy ratings[1].

[1] 19 city/28 highway/22 combined mpg rating. Based on 2014 EPA mileage ratings. Use for comparison purposes only. Your actual mileage will vary depending on how you drive and maintain your vehicle.

Variable Cylinder Management™

Variable Cylinder Management™ (VCM®) is programmed to run on three, four or six cylinders, based on the power requirement. Backed by the intelligence of i-VTEC® technology, VCM quickly and seamlessly activates or deactivates two or three cylinders. So you get the best of both worlds: V-6 power when accelerating or climbing, and the efficiency of a smaller engine while cruising.

Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE) Body Structure

ACE body structure is a Honda-exclusive design that enhances protection & crash compatibility in frontal collisions. The design utilizes a network of connected structural elements & high-strength steel to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle.

Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS)

The anti-lock braking system (ABS) uses a special modulator to pulse the brakes to help prevent wheel lockup. This helps the driver retain steering control during hard braking. The Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD) system balances the front/rear braking forces during dynamic loading.

Daytime Running Lights (DRL)

The Odyssey enhances its visibility to other drivers by incorporating Daytime Running Lights (DRL) up front.

Driver's and Front Passenger's Active Head Restraints

In a sufficient rear-end impact, the active head restraints move forward and up, helping reduce the likelihood of neck injury.

Dual-Stage, Multiple-Threshold Front Airbags (SRS)

Odyssey’s have dual-stage, multiple-threshold front airbags. These airbags are capable of being inflated at different rates depending on crash severity, seat-belt usage &/or other factors. Frontal airbags are designed to help reduce the likelihood of head & upper body injuries in frontal collisions.

Airbags inflated for display purposes.
Honda reminds you and your passengers to always buckle up. Children 12 and under are safest when properly restrained in the rear seat.

Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD)

Part of the braking system, EBD is a more exacting method of ensuring that proportionate braking forces are applied to the brakes. In order to avoid needless ABS cycling during a non-emergency stop, EBD uses the ABS sensors to detect impending rear-wheel lockup. Then it signals an additional ABS solenoid to reduce braking force to the rear and add more to the front.

Forward Collision Warning (FCW)

On EX-L and above models, a small camera mounted at the top of the front windshield can detect the presence of vehicles in front of you. If it determines that you are at risk of a collision with a detected vehicle, it activates audio and visual alerts to warn you [1].

[1] FCW cannot detect all objects ahead and may not detect a given object; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and other factors. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. FCW does not include a braking function. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Front 3-Point Seat Belts with Automatic Tensioning System

Front 3-point seat belts with automatic tensioners ride across the lap and chest to help restrain occupants during sudden stops or impact.

SmartVent™ Front Side Airbags

In the event of a moderate-to-severe side impact, the SmartVent™ front side airbag is designed to deploy & inflate quickly to maximize potential protection for properly seated occupants. It helps protect the front passenger's upper body from injury, or vent before fully inflating if an occupant’s in the airbag deployment path, thereby decreasing the likelihood for an airbag-related injury.

Honda reminds you and your passengers to always buckle up. Children 12 and under are safest when properly restrained in the rear seat.

Lane Departure Warning (LDW)

A small camera mounted at the top of the front windshield tracks lane markings on the road, and it can detect when the driver is making an un-indicated lane departure[1]. Visual alerts will light up on the driver’s instrument panel and the system also can provide an audible warning.

[1] LDW only alerts drivers when lane drift is detected without a turn signal in use. LDW may not detect all lane markings or lane departures; accuracy will vary based on weather, speed and road condition. System operation affected by extreme interior heat. Driver remains responsible for safely operating vehicle and avoiding collisions.

Lower Anchors and Tethers for CHildren (LATCH)

Odyssey models are available with up to 5 LATCH: 3 in the second-row seating positions (EX & above) 2 in the outboard third-row seat positions. The LATCH system provides 2 lower anchors & an upper tether anchor. When used with a compatible child seat, the LATCH system provides attachment points between the child seat & the vehicle seat.

Three-Row Side Curtain Airbags with Rollover Sensor

The side curtain airbag module is positioned along the side of the headliner. In the event of a sufficient side impact or rollover, this system is designed to activate to help provide protection for front and outboard rear occupants.

Airbags inflated for display purposes.

Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS)

This system monitors the pressure in all four tires, and alerts the driver when pressure loss in any tire becomes significantly low[1].

[1] For optimal tire wear and performance, tire pressure should be checked regularly with a gauge. Do not rely solely on the monitor system. Please see your Honda dealer for details.

Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with Traction Control

Working with ABS & the Drive-by-Wire™ throttle system, Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control[1] enhances stability by detecting oversteer or understeer, & by then braking individual wheels &/or reducing throttle to help restore the driver's intended path of travel.

[1] VSA is not a substitute for safe driving. It cannot correct the vehicle’s course in every situation or compensate for reckless driving. Control of the vehicle always remains with the driver.

ULEV-2 CARB Emissions Rating

The V-6 engine in the Odyssey meets California's Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle (ULEV-2)[1] standard for light trucks. Fuel efficiency[2] remains a high priority, as the outstanding city/highway ratings of the Odyssey confirm.

[1] ULEV-2 (Ultra-Low-Emission Vehicle) models as certified by the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

Honda’s Mobility Assistance Program

The Honda Customer Mobility Assistance Program is proud to support the mobility needs of drivers and passengers with physical disabilities. Honda will provide a reimbursement of up to $1,000 to each eligible, original retail customer for expenses incurred to purchase and install qualifying adaptive equipment on any eligible purchased or leased Honda vehicle.

Adapting Your Vehicle

Honda suggests that you request a copy of the Department of Transportation brochure "Adapting Motor Vehicles for People with Disabilities."

The process includes these steps:

  1. 1.Determine your state's driver's license requirements.

  2. 2.Evaluate your needs - Contact the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association (NMEDA) for further information.

  3. 3.Select the right vehicle - Consult with your evaluator, an adaptive installer and your local Honda dealer to determine the best Honda model to meet your needs.

  4. 4.Choose a qualified mobility equipment installer - Shop around and ask about qualifications, capabilities, experience, warranty coverage and service. Confirm that they are members of NMEDA.

  5. 5.Obtain training on the use of the new equipment - When this process is complete, follow the guidelines and complete and submit an application for assistance to recover up to $1,000 of the cost of your adaptive equipment and/or conversion.

Program Requirements

General

  1. Only the original vehicle owner is eligible for reimbursement.

  2. Modifications must be completed for the original owner or his/her immediate family.

  3. Only new Honda vehicles retailed or leased in the United States from an authorized Honda dealership.

  4. Only one reimbursement request per vehicle.

  5. Lease-vehicle modifications may be subject to written lessor approval. The customer is responsible for determining and satisfying lease-contract requirements.

  6. Honda will consider reimbursement for modifications made to vehicle after February 1, 2004.

  7. The written reimbursement request must be received within 6 months of the adaptive equipment installation.

Adaptations, Modifications or Equipment Installation

  1. Qualifying adaptive equipment or conversion is defined as: alterations or adaptive-equipment installation that provides to the disabled user convenient access and/or the ability to drive the vehicle.

  2. Adaptive equipment installation must have taken place within the time and mileage limits of the New Vehicle Limited Warranty.

  3. Alterations or adaptive equipment installation requires a prescription or medical documentation to be considered for reimbursement.

  4. Reimbursement requests (invoices) will be compared against the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Web site to verify that the alterer or repair business (individual, partnership or corporation) is registered with NHTSA and that the modification(s) are on the list of NHTSA exemptions.

  5. If all conditions are met, Honda will provide up to a $1,000 cash reimbursement. Honda will be the secondary coverage in the case of two or more reimbursement sources.

Exceptions

  1. Wheelchair or scooter hoists or ramps do not require a prescription, medical documentation or NHTSA exemption verification and NHTSA business registration for reimbursement consideration.

  2. Modifications that DO NOT make inoperative any part of a device or element of design that has been installed on or in a motor vehicle in compliance with a Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard will not require NHTSA exemption verification and NHTSA business registration for reimbursement consideration.

  3. *A reimbursement made by another source, such as medical insurance, will be subtracted from the customer's original total expense. (Example: Total expense $5,000, Insurance reimbursement $4,000, Customer expense, $1,000. The customer expense of $1,000 will be reviewed and considered for a maximum of $1,000 reimbursement.)

Important Customer Information

  1. The selection of an equipment manufacturer and installer is solely the customer's responsibility (Honda does not endorse any company or supplier involved in adaptive equipment. Mobility warranty, installation warranty and related liabilities are not the responsibility of Honda).

  2. The reimbursement application form must be completed in its entirety and signed by the customer. It should be mailed along with a copy of all required supporting documentation. (See checklist on application).

Insurance

What Are You Buying?
When you insure your Odyssey or Element, what are you actually buying? “Insaurance” actually consists of many different elements. Your policy may or may not have provisions covering all of them. They include:

  1. Bodily Injury Liability: This covers you if your Honda hurts or kills someone in an accident.

  2. Comprehensive: This covers damage to your Honda from non-accident sources like weather and vandalism.

  3. Property Damage Liability: This is legally required everywhere. It’s the portion of your insurance that covers damage to the other party’s vehicle after an accident.

  4. Collision: This covers damage to your Honda if it’s involved in an accident.

  5. Medical Payment: This provides coverage for you and/or your passengers for medical expenses related to an accident.

  6. Uninsured Motorist: If someone who doesn’t have insurance injures you, this will cover you.

The limits of your coverage and your deductibles for each element of your policy will vary based upon what you’ve purchased from your insurance company.

What Determines Your Rates?
How do insurance companies decide how much to charge you for that coverage? They look at a variety of factors.

Your actual vehicle is an important part of the puzzle. The value of your Odyssey or Element will have an impact on the price of your policy, because the cost of covering replacement and repair vary based upon the vehicle.

There’s more to it than that, though. Insurance companies also look at the vehicle type to help determine how likely you will be to utilize your insurance coverage. That’s why it’s cheaper to insure an Odyssey than an Element–minivans tend to have fewer significant claims than do small SUVs.

You can also expect the modifications you’ve made to your Honda wheelchair van to influence policy pricing. You may be an excellent driver, but the fact that modified vehicles tend to be involved in a relatively high number of claims is reason enough for insurance companies to increase premiums on wheelchair vans, in most cases.

You are part of the pricing equation, too. Your personal driving record, age, gender and any license restrictions you may have will influence the price of insurance. Non-driving related factors such as home ownership, credit rating, and where you live will also influence pricing. Insurance companies look at multiple variables to determine your probable level of risk.

Finally, the policy limits and coverage you select will influence your insurance pricing. If you’re only purchasing the minimum requirement of liability insurance in an effort to “stay legal,” you’ll spend a lot less than you would for full coverage with all available protections.

Purchasing insurance is always a process of balancing the best possible coverage with affordability. The levels of coverage you need and the amount you can spend will, obviously, vary based on a series of individual factors. The most important thing to remember is to be certain you have adequate coverage to meet both the legal requirements and your personal needs.

You’ll also want to consider insuring your mobility aids, vehicle modifications and equipment. Most vehicle policies will cover your Odyssey or Element, but they won’t cover your lift or ramp. They’ll replace your bumper if you get in an accident, but they won’t necessarily pay to fix your low-effort steering system if it’s damaged.

Insuring a Honda wheelchair van isn’t really a complicated procedure. When you understand the different kinds of coverage and how rates are set, the process is even easier to understand.
